Description

**1st Place!**
It feels great to be loved.

This one was taken in Seattle at Pike Place Market, this man preformed with his African Grey parrot as his act, the parrot would do tricks like playing dead after kids would pretend to shoot by saying "bang bang!" he had lots of fun tricks, like the one here (preparing to do a headstand.) But the bird was more than just a partner but a friend.
This shot was very hard to get because my camera was acting screwy, but I'm so thankful I got this one!

I went to the Washington Journalism Education Association in Olympia with some of my journalism class in high school and I won the sate-wide contest for a black and white of this photograph and two others with a Superior prize and gold medal.

CRITIQUE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

Firsty, the composition of this sht is refreshing. The shot stands out for the parrot's "pose" and the trust it must have in the man to hold it. To capture such a shot with such clarity, especially with the bird's features so well focused shows that a lot of thought and skill went into producing the shot rather than the photographer just "clicking" and hoping for the best.

The greyish colouring overall works well to connect both the parro's greys with his owner's beard - in essence making this colour party of the theme of the photograph.

The lighting of the shot seems very focused on the parrot's head and eye. Overall, the lighting looks great and emphasizes the features of the bird well - althought with the bright white eye against the bright white head at first glance it looked a bit odd in the zoomed veiw (would have to blame the bird for that, though!)Again, probably from the natural lighting available I can't help but feel a little more contrast in the man's features to match the detail in the parrot's features would have been nice.

Overall, it is a fantastic shot and to have captured it shows that you do have a great artistic sense of compensation and understanding of your camera! Defintely can see how the B & W version won first prize. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w…" width="15" height="15" alt=";)" title=";) (Wink)"/>
